With clouds rolling in earlier than expected, the agriculture department in Jhunjhunu is urging local farmers to prepare for early Kharif sowing. Thanks to steady rainfall over the last week, sowing conditions for crops like bajra, moong, and urad are looking good—but timing is key.
Experts from the local agri-extension office suggest that farmers wait for at least 48 hours of consistent rainfall before sowing seeds. This helps avoid wasted effort if the monsoon pauses unexpectedly. Jhunjhunu’s semi-arid belt is known for tricky weather, so these precautions are practical.
The IMD’s local forecast for the next 10 days is promising, showing consistent cloud cover and high humidity. Officials are advising farmers to track weather updates using the Bharat Weather App and make use of state subsidies for drip irrigation and climate-resilient seeds.
Sarpanchs in villages like Mandawa and Surajgarh have been asked to spread awareness through morning panchayat meets and WhatsApp groups.
Crop rotation, timely fertilization, and pest control after the rains are also being stressed. The hope is that this season performs better than last year’s patchy Kharif yield, which had suffered from late sowing and dry patches.
