Jhunjhunu | June 30, 2025 –
Heavy rain lashed several areas of Jhunjhunu district today, bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat but also raising concern about waterlogging and transport disruptions. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), eastern Rajasthan—including Jhunjhunu, Sikar, and Jaipur—recorded above-average rainfall for the end of June.
Jhunjhunu received light to moderate rainfall in the early morning hours, followed by heavier downpours by noon. Major areas including Mandawa, Nawalgarh, and Chirawa saw streets flooded and low-lying areas waterlogged.
“Our village road is completely flooded, and school vans didn’t run today,” said Ritu, a resident of a village near Surajgarh.
The IMD issued a yellow alert for 27 districts, warning of continued rain with possible lightning strikes and wind gusts. People are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Rajasthan as a whole has received 130% of normal June rainfall this year, marking one of the wettest starts to monsoon season in a decade. However, authorities have asked farmers to wait before sowing until the soil absorbs water fully.
Why It Matters for Jhunjhunu Residents
The rain is a welcome blessing for farmers and residents facing water shortages. But it also highlights the district’s poor drainage in several areas. Civic bodies in Jhunjhunu and nearby towns are now rushing to clear blocked drains and ensure roads remain navigable.
Residents are advised to stay alert, especially during night-time downpours.
