Canal water flowing through farmland distributary in rural Jhunjhunu for Kharif irrigation

Indira Gandhi Canal Water Schedule Updated — Improved Flow Expected for Jhunjhunu Farms

Farmers in Jhunjhunu can breathe easier this week. The Rajasthan Irrigation Department has released a revised water discharge schedule for the Indira Gandhi Canal, confirming improved water flow through key branch lines that serve Jhunjhunu’s farming belts.

According to the update, regions near Mandawa, Alsisar, and Pilani will begin receiving increased water supply starting June 28, with flow expected to reach optimal levels by July 3. This update is a part of the state’s plan to support early-stage Kharif crop irrigation, especially for bajra and moong farmers.

Local irrigation offices have also issued notices to farmers about maintaining cleaned field channels and preparing bunds to capture water efficiently. The schedule ensures that minor canals and distributaries connected to Jhunjhunu will get water in a phased but regular manner.

SDO (Water Resources), Mr. Vinod Jat, said, “Rainfall has been fair, and this improved flow will cover critical farmland areas. We request panchayats and cooperative societies to help spread this update.”

Farmers are encouraged to coordinate with Gram Sevaks and Krishi Vigyan Kendras for best practices during canal water release windows.
