Passengers boarding Rajasthan’s electric bus service from Jhunjhunu to Jaipur under trial extension”

Jaipur–Jhunjhunu EV Bus Trial Extended After Positive Public Response

Jhunjhunu’s green mobility future is taking shape! The Jaipur–Jhunjhunu electric bus trial, which began earlier this month under RSRTC’s sustainable transport program, has been extended for another 60 days due to overwhelming public support.

The electric bus route covering Jaipur, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu has recorded a 40% higher occupancy compared to traditional diesel buses during weekends. Passengers have praised the EV buses for being cleaner, quieter, and more comfortable.

Key features of the EV service include:

  • Zero-emission, AC buses with USB charging ports
  • Reserved seats for women and senior citizens
  • Fare similar to regular Volvo buses (₹270 one-way)
  • Departure from Jhunjhunu at 7:00 AM and return from Jaipur at 6:00 PM daily

Transport Minister Ravi Poonia said, “We’re closely monitoring ridership and maintenance data. If performance remains steady, this could become a permanent route by end of 2025.”

The EV buses are being operated in collaboration with a private electric mobility company and are currently charging at Jaipur and Sikar depots.

Local college students and government employees commuting to Jaipur have been key supporters of the initiative, asking for increased frequency and online booking.
